Mary Starr - Banana-Walnut Bread Recipe

Ingredients:
4 good size bananas (mashed)             3/4 cup margarine
1 teaspoon vanilla                                1 teaspoon soda
1/2 cup buttermilk                                1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs (well beaten)                             1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups sifted White Lily Bread flour
3/4 cup black walnuts (chopped)

Cream:
Margarine and sugar thoroughly.

Blend in: Bananas, eggs and vanilla.

Sift: White Lily flour, soda and salt together.

Stir into:banana mixture alternately with buttermilk. Add nuts, mix well

Pour into:greased and floured loaf pan.

Bake:at 325 degrees for one hour and fifteen minutes or until done.

    You can also drizzle melted cream cheese over the top for a

     light icing. It makes one very delicious guilty pleasure!

Mary Starr - Shrimp and Lobster Curry Recipe

Combine in the top of double boiler:
2 cans frozen shrimp soup
1 tablespoon curry powder

Place over boiling water until mixture is thoroughly blended and hot.
Add a douse of white whine (optional)


Have your cooked lobster in chafing dish or bowl over warming candle.
Pour the sauce over the lobster and serve over rice or toast points.

Mary Starr - Oyster Rockefeller Recipe

"A famous creole dish from New Orleans... a labor of love with its double sauce and all the mincing, but well worth the trouble." - Mary Starr

3 Dozen Oysters on the half shell
4 tablespoons finely chopped onion
1 teaspoon finely chopped garlic
4 tablespoons finely chopped green pepper
2 tablespoons finely chopped celery
Juice of 2 lemons
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons chili powder
3/4 pound butter
3/4 cup fine bread crumbs
1 1/2 cups water
4 teaspoons chopped crisp bacon
Salt, white pepper and cayenne pepper to taste

Mix all ingredients except butter thoroughly. Melt butter in a sauce pan, adding first mixture and let cook five minutes. Arrange oyster shells on beds of rock sale (ice cream salt will serve) in tin pans (we used foil pans), allowing six oysters per person. Put on heaping tablespoon of the cooked dressing on each oyster and bake in 400 degree oven ten minutes. Remove from oven, put one tablespoon of the following green sauce on each oyster.... return to oven for few moments and serve immediately.



Green Sauce: 
2 cups cooked spinach
2 tablespoons white lily plain all-purpose flour
1/4 pound butter
4 drops absinthe (optional)
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons vinegar
3/4 cup water
2 dashes Tabasco sauce
4 tablespoons finely chopped parsley

Melt butter in saucepan, add flour. Blend. Add remaining ingredients and cook for three minutes.... Enjoy!

Mary Starr - Curried Chicken Salad Recipe

Chill in refrigerator:
2 cups cooked chicken cut into chunks.

Just before serving blend:
1/2 cup mayonnaise or cooked salad dressing
1.4 cup chutney
1 teaspoon curry powder
2 tablespoons lemon juice

Add chicken, salad dressing mixture, and toss lightly. Serve on the following:

3 cups cold, cooked rice blended with: 2 or 3 tablespoons French dressing
1/2 cup snipped parsley
Garnish with: 1/4 cup chopped olives



Mary Starr - Bleu Cheese Baked Chicken Recipe

"A wonderful meal when served with green peas and tossed salad." - Mary Starr

Rub 6 or 8 chicken breasts with butter or margarine. Salt and pepper to taste. Garlic salt if desired. Brown chicken in heavy skillet. Place the browned chicken breasts in a deep baking dish. Combine and heat just until cheese is melted:

1 Pint Sour Cream                                        1 Pint light cream
Small package bleu cheese, crumbled

Be careful not to let the mixture boil. When cheese has melted pour mixture over chicken. Bake at 325 for about one hour or until chicken is tender. Turn chicken often.

Mary Starr - Witches Brew

To Serve on Halloween

Combine and Refrigerate overnight:
1 Large Can Frozen Orange Juice
1 Gallon Apple Cider
12 Whole Cloves
6 Whole Allspice
Red Hot Cinnamon Candies

When ready to serve, add one party pak ginger ale. May be heated or served cold with ice cubes.



(Note from Editor of blog: A great Idea for Halloween parties, if you put dry ice in cups or a bowl safe for dry ice your brew will appear to have steam, or fog coming from it.)

Mary Starr - Pumpkin Bread Recipe

Combine:3 Cups Sugar
4 Beaten Eggs
1 Cup Corn Oil

Add and Blend 1 can (1 lb.) Pumpkin. Sift Together and Add:
3 1/2 Cups White Lily Bread Flour
1 Teaspoon baking powder
2 Teaspoons Soda
2 Teaspoons Salt
1/2 Teaspoon Cloves
1 Teaspoon Nutmeg
1 Teaspoon Cinnamon
1 Teaspoon Allspice

Add:2/3 Cup Water

Bake: in 2 greased pans and floured loaf pans 1 hour at 350.
